mind

  The Buddhists say ” The mind by its nature is restless, but you are not the mind”

   If we are not the mind- then what are we?

 All the great spiritual traditions tell us that our center,our essence ,our soul, is eternal and never

  dies.

   So by logic these two things make up our being.

    Only If we can understand our opponent can we defeat it.

    The best way to understand the mind is to observe it;

   then we can start to grasp its power and pervasiveness.

    A wonderful yet simple way to do this is to watch the breath flow in and out.

     Sit in a chair or on the floor – which ever is more comfortable

     Sit erect but not rigid and begin watching your breathing- in breath and outbreath.

      In the beginning limit the exercise to 5 minutes, and as you progress add to that .

      This is a sure path to the understanding and control of the mind.

      Remember though – the mind will fight you – this will be a struggle.

     But persist and you will have sweet victory;

              The peace that surpasseth all understanding.
