open heart

December 17th, 2008 by Locke in Daily Life, Marriage, Relationship, Spiritual Journey

I don’t feel like

writing poetry

this morning.

My wife is ill;

It’s like

I am too.

I don’t like it

but this is the way

it should be.

Every pain ofour

fellow human being

Should be ours.

The cynic says, But

I’m separate; Why

should I have her pain?

It’s not that I get

sick,It’s that my

heart understands her pain.

And with this open

heart I am able to

receive help and grace.

Without it,I am closed off;

My garden is covered with plastic

And the plants can’t grow.

dogs

Even dogs know

about God

The other morning

very early I was

doing prayers

The  holy place

I was in was

lit with light.

At the end of

my meditation,I saw

a movement outside.

When I looked closer

I saw  a small white dog

shivering in the dawn.

He put his paws

on the glass and

leaned,looking in.

A magnet draws

metal filings;

Even a dog’s heart is

drawn in

to the light.

compassion

December 15th, 2008 by Locke in Bawa Muhaiyaddeen, Daily Life, Relationship, Spiritual Journey

Try to acquire the blissful wealth of compassion.

This is your rightful wealth.

Make it yours forever.

It will be your one treasure,

It will be the medicine for your body,

It will be the essence of your life, your existence.

duty

December 14th, 2008 by Locke in Bawa Muhaiyaddeen, Daily Life, service, Spiritual Journey

  Duty should not be performed out of favoritism or as a business. If you want to perform a duty, you have to do it with an open heart. If you perform a duty without love, that means there is some doubt within you, or some feeling of differences. There may even be a subtle feeling of revenge because of a fault that someone had committed earlier towards you or some fault that you had done to him. Do not give room to doubts, anger,or revenge for things that have been said or done earlier. Whatever duty you set out to do in this world,do it and then escape. Do not expect help in return. It is dangerous to expect a reward; simply do your duty. Therefore,do not expect any favors from those you help. Just perform your duty with wisdom. One day people will praise you ,the next day they will blame you. One day they will embrace you the next day they will beat you. One day they will trust you and treat you with respect, the next day they  will try to destroy you. Therefore we must completely remove such expectations. That is how God performs His duty. He never expects any help or favors from us.Those who have wisdom and truly believe in that one God must perform their duties in the same way. If we can organize our hearts  to perform our duties in the highest and loftiest way, we will know victory and the beauty of the kingdom of God.
