here today

I know I’ll be

gone in a

little while

We all go.

I feel some sense

of urgency,but

mostly I watch.

I know I need

that special sense

That comes from

the center

of my heart.

It sees through the

filter of God

And places

each thing in

its proper place.

Eternity in a grain

of sand always

sounded good.

I’m beginning

to see how it’s

possible.

habits

December 12th, 2008 by Locke in Daily Life, Meditation, Spiritual Journey

We learn to eat,to talk,

to act,to discriminate

even to kill.

We learn many habits

and they all come

after the original one.

As infants there is

only one habit-

the peace of God within.

We can see it in the

eyes of a child.

It is a wonder.

As time passes,we

learn the other habits

and forget the

original one

If we nourished the

original state,we

would have no need

for the others.

All action would

flow perfectly from

the center

Things of value

December 11th, 2008 by Locke in Daily Life, Spiritual Journey

So often things of

value are hidden

Like the rose nestled

in the thorns

Or the gem hidden

in the rock.

Or the pearl within

the oyster.

Yet there are those

who shout their wares

Extolling the excellence

of their product.

It looks good but

something is wrong.

things of value

whisper-they

never shout.

And so it is with

a man of wisdom.

He comes so rarely

that we must

Hold on for dear life

when we find one

the younger generation

December 10th, 2008 by Locke in Daily Life, Uncategorized

I asked an old friend of mine, who is very wise , about the younger generation and why ,today ,there is so much drug abuse, crime and amorality prevalent among the young. This man, who was at one time a drug addict and dealer and now is a responsible father and teacher, asked if I wanted a one word answer or a 10 minute explanation. I responded that one word would be fine. His answer was-” PARENTS.” He went on to say that ,today, parents want to be liked by their children and will go to any extent to avoid coldness or blame. Hence they would, far more, rather placate a child and give into a child’s wishes rather than do what is right for the child and what will establish good and strong boundaries and moral strength . He went on.”To be a good parent  you must be willing to be hated sometimes; though,in time that hatred will change into gratitude. Parents today want instant gratification and many are unwilling ,unprepared or simply ignorant of how to deal with their children – so the kids go elsewhere to get their rules and codes of conduct and often that means the streets”
