here today

I know I’ll be

gone in a little

while.

We all go.

I feel some sense

of urgency, but

mostly I watch.

I know I need

that special sense

That comes from

the center

of my heart.

It sees through the

filter of God,

removes fear,

And places each

thing in its

proper light

Eternity in a grain

of sand always

sounded good.

I’m beginning

to see how

it’s possible

the quiet ones

February 25th, 2009 by Locke in Daily Life, Spiritual Journey, service

Have you ever noticed some people have a twinkle in their eye; they never seem to get too upset about anything, yet they are wonderful listeners and you feel that they truly are listening, not just passing time. There is a certain quality to these people. I never hear them bad mouthing others. My father was this way – I can not remember one single instance when I heard him belittle a person or find fault with him. I took it for granted then but now, after all these years I find it a very rare quality indeed. A wise man said once that even if we did nothing of great merit during our lifetimes if we caused no harm to others in word or deed, that would be exalted.

Diamonds

February 23rd, 2009 by Locke in Daily Life, Relationship, Spiritual Journey

If we saw a priceless diamond in the mud , we would fasten our sight on that gleaming stone ,oblivious to the surrounding dirt. We would even dirty our hands to seize the gem. In like manner, we all have that gem of great price inside. It is the gem of beautiful qualities; compassion, patience, understanding, wisdom – it is a rare gem. In some it is so strong that it shines through all the dirt and we see it instantly. In others we have to search a little to find it, but it is always there in each human being. If we dealt with each other in this manner , always discarding the dirt and seeing the gem  how much could our relationships with each other change. Our lives would be transformed and we would bring such peace to another’s heart.

a little good

February 19th, 2009 by Locke in Daily Life, Spiritual Journey, service

Just do a little good every day. It doesn’t have to be anything large – it can even be a kind word or observation or compliment. When someone surprises me with an act of compassion or a kind word, I am touched and it penetrates to my core and my day after that tends to be brighter. It is so easy to do yet often we walk past and do nothing or say nothing and thereby miss the chance to brighten someone’s day – even our own- for remember what we do to others we do to ourselves
