the tail

November 22nd, 2008 by Locke in Daily Life, Humor, Spiritual Journey

I watched my dog once

 chasing his tail

in a circle

He was very

earnest.

Even if I had told him

it was a

mistake

He wouldn’t have stopped.

Around and around I go

My tail changes

colour and form.

One minute it’s a book,

the next a woman,

then a gem.

If I give my dog

something tasty

he might stop.

What prize

would make me stop running

and bring me home?

A choice…

June 12th, 2008 by Locke in Daily Life, Humor, Spiritual Journey

It is said, in the darkness
   one has a choice;

 Either curse it
   or light a light.

 I cursed it
  for a long time,
  but found it stayed there.

 And then I
  saw a light; pure wisdom

  That came from
    a wise man.

    Now, when it
     gets dark

    I turn on
      the light;
     So much better.

    And besides I can
      see to work.

The Squirrel

June 10th, 2008 by Locke in Daily Life, Humor, Spiritual Journey

     We have so much
       to learn from animals.

     Look at the squirrel;
       Not one to complain.

     Just busy finding nuts
       and storing them.

      His is serious work.
        He knows Winter is near.

      Each step, each nut
       is the difference between
       Life and death.

      How’re we doing
       with our gathering?

      Yesterday, I found
           a few.

      But, today I have
       to go to  the city.

       Tomorrow, I may be
          travelling.

       I’ll never manage
         this way.

       Winter is coming
         I’m way behind
        schedule.

Ask the newborn…

February 8th, 2008 by Locke in Daily Life, Humor, Spiritual Journey

I remember this lovely, and apparently true, story of a newborn child at home. The five year old brother of this newborn is fascinated by the newborn and hangs around the crib as much as possible. One morning the parents see him leaning over the rail of the crib and hear him say “Tell me what God is like, I’ve almost forgotten.”
