Bzzz-Bzzz-I hear him
long before
I see him.
I even know what
he’s doing ,before
I see him.
There he is
A golden blur
Of wings and movement.
Moving faithfully
from flower
to flower.
He doesn’t waste time.
there is important
work to do.
If only I had half
the energy,
I say.
But what would
I do
with it.
Would I labor without
lunch break – finding
nectar in each crevice?
Would I be
so one-pointed
as he?
A bee is wonderful-
he has no question
about his life.
And we, what is our duty?
what nectar do we
store in the hive?
A child asked M.R.Bawa Muhaiyaddeen,”Why did God create so many different religions” Bawa answered that God sent to the earth many different prophets at different times to bring the truth, not religions. Religion was man’s doing.
I love artichokes.I wonder sometimes who discovered the heart? Think of all the prickly, coarse leaves he /she would have had to go through to reach that tender, succulent ,delicious center. It’s like that with people, I find. But sometimes instead of focussing on the prickly leaves if we concentrate on the center,(the goodness) of each person we discover that often the leaves part and we can see straight through to the sweet heart inside. It may not happen immediately but if we persist with compassion it will shine through and we can then taste the beauty of that soul. The important thing is: don’t give up and don’t expect; it will come in its own time and meanwhile we will, by our intent and perseverance, be tasting our own center.
